Although many people listened to the Kim Hill show last weekend, broadcast from Foo Camp, it seems the majority are slightly confused about why 140-odd IT people went to a weekend event about Food.

It had nothing to do with food actually, however the food was awesome. Best conference fare I've ever experienced! Big Kudos to the team from Warkworth and/or  Mahurangi College who provided it.

It was my first Foo experience and it was awesome. Many others have given their reports and opinions, both glowing and odd, so I won't go into details. But I did have a few observations.

I was really struck by the candid and open way people like Tim Norton, Dave ten Have, Rod Drury, Rowan Simpson, Miki Szikszai and many more discussed their ideas, their experiences and their business. This aspect was probably the highlight for me - being around people who are truly inspirational and also damn nice (and fit, as Sandy pointed out)!

It was good to see a reasonable number of women there (although there could've been more) including Judith Tizard (where else in the world would an MP turn up to a geek fest and enjoy herself!), Tash from Webstock, Erica Lloyd, Justine Sanderson, Lulu from Provoke and Amy Hoy (on her way to speak at Webstock).

It was amazing to go to bed at 3am and leave about 50 people still up and alert(ish) and animatedly chatting and playing games.

And it was great to meet people I've heard of and read but not met before like Juha Saarinen and David Slack as well as catch up with old friends like Zef Fugaz.

Finally it was nerve-wracking to present my project NZ On Screen (as a work in progress) to an audience of peers, and gratifying to get good feedback and insight from people who know about these things - like the folks from Throng and TVNZ OnDemand.

Huge thank you too to Nat Torkington and Russell Brown for inviting me :)
